George Zimmerman’s Lawyers Should Embrace Racial Profiling Rather Than Run From it.

Seminole County, FL—Neighborhood Block Watch member George Zimmerman stands accused of murdering Trayvon Martin. 

Local political types quickly drew the conclusion that Zimmerman gave special attention to Martin because of his race.  That phenomena is called, racial profiling.  I don’t think they were wrong about that.  But let’s discuss just what that really means.

Racial profiling in the Zimmerman case suggests that only racial bigotry was the spark that brought about Martin’s death.  Bigotry may be suspected but there’s not a shred of evidence that racial hate was any factor in this event.

The reality is for that area of Sanford violent, sex and property crimes are nearly all exclusively committed by young, African-American males.  Additionally with this demographic hiding their identity with hoodies is commonplace.

The elderly, White or female population members are simply not ever involved in these types of crimes. 

Simple common sense and due diligence dictates that special attention must be paid to those within the area’s population that statistically fit the profile of law breakers.

Our political correctness and racial sensitivities have gone way over the top.  We have allowed the shrill voices of some members of our society to dictate that we disregard all reality and common sense.

When it comes to terrorism acts involving the world’s airlines the offenders are exclusively males between the ages of 18 and 35 and Muslim.  Yet we waste untold billions of dollars subjecting the vast majority of travelers that don’t fit the profile to the same scrutiny we give to the real culprits.  This is all in the name of political correctness.

George Zimmerman was not in anyway wrong for giving special attention to the activities of Travon Martin.  There is no law that bars civilians from making personal survival decisions based on any kind of profiling.

We have to judge Zimmerman only on proof of who committed the original assault.  Zimmerman was specifically given the task of watching over the community and that meant keeping a sharp eye on those most likely to do harm in the area of his assigned watch.

Trayvon Martin fit the profile of sex, age and yes, race of someone most likely to commit a crime during the hours of darkness. 

Frankly Zimmerman would be considered downright crazy if he was following some White grandmother pushing strollers containing their grandchildren rather than Trayvon Martin.

Those political types that consider criminal profiling racist have only added to society’s problems. They have failed to in anyway address the causes behind the statistical reality of crime in our world.

Zimmerman’s attorneys need to use the profiling aspects of this sad case like a sword rather than a liability. 

George Zimmerman’s Trial Off to a Disastrous Start

Seminole County, FL—Let me begin by saying I’m a court certified firearms expert, firearms trainer and a licensed private investigator that specializes in wrongfully prosecuted self-defense cases. I have 40 years experience as a cop and investigator.

The trial of George Zimmerman kicked off this morning with opening statements.  The prosecutor passionately painted Zimmerman as a predatory and profiling vigilante with murdering Travon Martin on his mind.  The message was simple, short and nasty. 

The defense began with lawyer Don West telling a seemingly inappropriate Knock Knock joke. 

It’s best described as an inside joke directed to the jury that had just withstood relentless and redundant questioning about what they may have heard about the case they were to decide. The joke however went over like a lead balloon. 

As for the rest of West’s presentation it lacked any energy, effectiveness and was nothing short a miracle cure for insomnia. Worst of all when it was over the only thing memorable about it was the Knock Knock joke.

It seems obvious to me that the defense did not consult a solid firearms or self-defense expert. They seem resigned to trying to prove that Zimmerman acted in self-defense rather than showing that the state can’t prove he didn’t. 

The burden of proof has already been wrongfully shifted to Zimmerman.

The prosecutor’s entire case is behind a poorly trained 911 operator making uninformed and blind judgments miles away from the scene. That witness testified and the defense should have pulled him apart like warm bread during cross-examination.  

The theory that Zimmerman was a criminal predator is easily defused by the undeniable facts.  He was part of a block watch, he understood the criminal demographics of the neighborhood and he was in constant contact with the police throughout the disastrous encounter. 

Had Zimmerman actually been the monster described by the prosecutor he’d have simply waited for an opportunity to shoot Martin in the back where nobody would have been able to see anything and simply leave.  We know that never happened.

Zimmerman was simply following a person that fit the profile of the neighborhood's burglars. That hooded stranger we now know to be Travon Martin took a shortcut avoiding the proper entrance of the gated community.  Zimmerman’s getting out of his vehicle to keep a closer eye on Martin was reasonable under the circumstances.  

Martin was in much better physical condition than Zimmerman and used that disparity of force to violently confront his curious follower. 

An assault ensued that nobody could see from a clear view.  We only have Zimmerman’s version of the beginning of the physical action. 

The disparity of force was more than obvious and Zimmerman was beaten until he could employ the gun he carried, stopping the attack.

No other version of events makes sense.  Not only did Zimmerman have obvious injuries he also had plenty of grass stains on his back.

Zimmerman took on the responsibility of looking for trouble as a block watch volunteer.  He found it along with a lot more than he ever bargained for when he signed on for the program.

Zimmerman’s real mistake was his total cooperation with investigators.  The investigators seemed to be properly motivated and did not arrest Zimmerman. 

It was the prosecutors that saw a political advantage in bringing a vicious prosecution here.  All of Zimmerman’s cooperation is being used against him now.

California—The politicians and their bureaucrats are on a search and destroy mission, endangering citizens.  Their APPS forcible gun confiscation targets registered owners. 

The United States Supreme Court in two separate decisions invalidated the gun registration requirements of convicted felons and prohibited possessors.  Those laws violate the rights of the felons against self-incrimination by demanding they admit gun possession.

Was Michael Hastings Running for His Life When He Crashed?

Los Angeles, CA—Award winning journalist Michael Hastings reportedly was under investigation by the FBI after his explosive interview and news story that led to the resignation of General Stanley McChrystal. 

The sudden rash of conspiracy theories surrounding Hastings death seems to have serious merit.  As a long time investigator, I have obvious questions.  I have learned that Hastings was a good and temperate driver.  The 4:15 AM, June 18^th fiery crash of his Mercedes sedan in Los Angeles show signs of incredibly high speed that apparently caused the loss of control of the car by Hastings.  

Very recently Hastings had complained to several people that he was under surveillance by the FBI.  The FBI is nothing more than an arm of Eric Holder’s Justice Department and they often get instructions from the very highest levels of government.

The only thing that comes to mind is that Hastings must have been running from someone threatening him.  We all know the Obama Administration has gone rogue with surveillance and currently they are in paranoia mode with even their most loyal media cheerleaders at the major networks and newspapers.  Lately they’ve been unsuccessfully doing cover-ups and damage control is at a furious pace.  Controlling leaks is proving impossible.

Hastings has been obviously viewed as a major threat to the Obama and his henchmen.  Obama claims he only traded American liberty and privacy for public safety. 

Spying on the media is unacceptable in any free society.  That’s not stopped Obama’s style one bit.  Obama’s clearly out to crush anyone that creates the slightest amount of embarrassment to him.  America has spiraled right into a Banana Republic in that regard.

The immediate questions I have are was Hastings under surveillance at the time of his death?  Was a GPS device attached to his car by anyone?  With drone technology the covert GPS like I sometimes employ is antiquated by comparison.  Where was Hastings in the few hours that led up to the time of death?  Was there an incendiary device in the car that caused or embellished that inferno that followed the crash?  Has the Federal government involved themselves into the routine LAPD accident investigation and why?  Somehow I don’t expect any transparency here.

This mysterious death is in dire need of a comprehensive, exhaustive and independent investigation.  

The Serial Shooter of Phoenix Cheats the Hangman

Convicted Serial Sniper Dale Hausner

Florence, AZ—Inside the infamous Eyman Unit of the Arizona State Prison are those men that each await there turn to be taken by uniformed prison guards and led to a small room.  In that room is a table with armrests and lots of leather straps.  The guards will place him on the table strapping him tightly to it.  The unlucky inmate is then connected to two inter-venous lines with a saline solution dripping into his body.

Soon the warden will read the death warrant and ask the guest of honor if he as any last words.  Soon the blinds are opened for two windows.  On one side are cops, prosecutors, and family members of murder victims.  On the other side are family members, defense lawyers of the soon to be departed.  Additionally there are members of the public at large and at least one pool journalist. 

The warden will nod and an unseen killer pushes deadly toxin into the IV lines.  Soon the condemned man’s breathing is laborious as he loses consciousness.  After a few minutes the blinds close.  The witnesses are led out to the bright Arizona son.  Few words are said as the survivors find their ways to their cars. 

The pool journalist is taken before ate cameras and a score of notepad holding reporters.   The reporter describes to his colleagues just what he experienced in the Death House. 

A hearse or sometimes a plain van is nearby waiting to transport the dead man to the Medical Examiner for an autopsy.  It seems like a waste of time to officially determine the cause of death considering what just took place under law and so many watchful eyes.

This was the fate of 40 Year-old Dale Hausner.  Hausner and his pal Samuel Dieteman developed a peculiar hobby.  The two hunted down fellow human being for sport and killed at least six of them in the two-dozen known shootings.  

Phoenix police had their own hunting party.  They worked night and day and heroic detectives caught their prey.  The bagged Hausner and Dieteman. 

A dear friend of mine, Camille Kimball in her book, A Sudden Shot, eloquently told the story of Hausner and Dieteman.   The book is a thriller and a terrific read.  I won’t even attempt to steal any of Kimball's thunder.  Buy Camille’s book.

As for cheating the hangman, Hausner attempted suicide early on with over the counter medications.  He was soon convicted and sentenced to die by lethal injection.  Dieterman faired better receiving life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hausner did not like his fate nor the years of endless appeals. He wanted a quick way out fighting the legal system trying to end his appeals.  There is no really quick way to ring your curtain down in our litigious society even with a death sentence. 

Yesterday, Dale Hausner was found lifeless in his cell.  He was only 40 years old and there were no obvious signs of the cause of his death.  My guess is another effort to ingest something deadly however this time with success.  The Medical Examiner will tell us the cause of death at some point however toxicological tests often take weeks. 

The only thing certain is that the appeals are over and the Death House execution party will never take place.   Instead, a peaceful anti-climax spoiled the fun of a bloodthirsty society.  If our religious teachers are correct Hausner is facing the only real justice right now.  On the face of it many believe his real punishment may be just beginning.

The Unabomber Was Really Just a Visionary Trying to Save Mankind

Lincoln, MT—In the 1990’s I was assigned to investigate the case of a man I would learn was Theodore John "Ted" Kaczynski, PhD by ABC News.

This adventure began for me when I visited an International Chiefs of Police Convention. In the exhibit hall I found a fascinating FBI display there of reconstructed intricate booby-trap style bombs.  They were identical to the ones used in the deadly Unibomber campaign that killed three and maimed an additional 23 people.  The FBI wanted to share the information with the thousands of local, state and federal law enforcement officers vising the convention.

All of the bombing victims were involved with universities and airlines and the FBI codenamed their investigation, "UNABOM" (UNiversity & Airline BOMber).

Kaczynski sent an extortionate letter to The New York Times on April 24, 1995 saying he’d end the bombings if the Times or the Washington Post published his manifesto, Industrial Society and Its Future (The media called this body of work,  "The Unabomber Manifesto").

Kaczynski contended that his bombings were necessary to showcase the rapid erosion of human freedom.   He saw the future where technology would facilitate an unimaginable surveillance police state where things like government remote control killings would become commonplace. 

Kaczynski had the foresight to understand that our world was going to be a miserable place to live completely void of any privacy or control over our own lives.

Kaczynski was a gifted genius however that somewhat hampered the effective writing of his Manifesto.  It was an incredibly dry read and somewhat difficult for most people to understand. 

It was on April 3, 1996 that the FBI made the announcement that they had caught the Unabomber.  I got the frantic call from ABC News producer John Siceloff who was desperate for information.  ABC News had scrambled a large crew to that remote town of Lincoln but they were still many hours away.  The telephone lines were overloaded and information was scarce.

I never saw the inside walls of Journalism schools except for seminars I attended at Columbia and Northwestern with the IRE, Investigative Reporters and Editors.  I quickly became an aficionado of CAR (computer assisted reporting).

I was doing a lot of freelance investigative producing primarily for Local Phoenix television news.  Often various networks needed help and I’d get and respond to their summons.

I knew how to handle this one with the very latest computer tools.  I used a reverse telephone database simply because I knew Lincoln was a small town and most of the inhabitants were witnessing the action as it was unfolding.  I would simply call every businesses until I got the information I needed.

At the top of the phone list was AAA Towing.  From my experience I knew that towing operators always know what the cops are doing.  They tow the cars of suspects and know the addresses involved.  I made the call and could hear their police scanner in the background.  That towing operator was a wealth of information for me. 

I soon learned everyone in the town knew Kaczynski.  There was no car to tow because he used a bicycle.  He lived in a tiny shack and was somewhat unkempt and even smelly.  The towing operator told me that there were two women that knew him well.  One was the director of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and the other was the town librarian.

I immediately called Siceloff and gave him the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the two women.  That evening ABC World News Tonight broadcast exclusive interviews of the women leaving the competition in the dirt.

After this arrest the biggest question was related to Kaczynski’s sanity or lack of it.  Investigators and reporters did not really understand this strange character.  Kaczynski refused to consume or use modern technology devices and viewed them as cursed.  The man was generally dismissed as a nut case.  It’s obvious now that he felt the injuries and deaths from his bombs were a small price to pay to slow down writer George Orwell’s worst nightmare.

Today in view of the NSA scandal and how an American president has been given absolute power Kaczynski now seems perfectly sane.  He simply tried to warn an apathetic world that refused to listen.   Even with the bombing campaign still nobody listened.
