Appendix carry for striker-fired pistols is insane!

Throughout my life, I’ve tried every possible  way to carry handguns, seeking a balance of accessibility, convenience, comfort, concealment, and, most importantly, safety. It can be a very challenging goal, especially when it comes to larger firearms.

When Glock popularized reliable striker-fired pistols, many manufacturers followed suit. These pistols, however, lack the traditional manual safety lever. Instead, they have a small trigger safety that must be depressed to fire the weapon.

Now, imagine pulling your gun in a high-stress situation. Recall the female Secret Service agent fumbling for her gun during the first attempt on Donald Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania. If she had accidentally discharged the firearm, the risk of injury would have been minimal with a hip holster. Had she been using an appendix carry position, the consequences could have been much more serious.

Our bodies aren’t uniform. While some men might handle appendix carry without issue, the reality is that many have a bit of a belly, which makes safe appendix carry even more difficult. This method becomes particularly risky when reholstering under stress, such as after a physical altercation or while apprehending a criminal.

I strongly advocate for sticking to traditional hip or shoulder holsters. Appendix carry poses significant risks—self-inflicted injuries, including self-castration or severing the femoral artery, are real possibilities.

Most appendix carry holsters are cheap Kydex scabbards. If you’re looking for a holster, choose carefully from established manufacturers. Your life depends on it, so price should never be a concern. Personally, I’ve trusted Galco holsters for over 50 years. While they do offer some well-designed appendix models, their shoulder and hip holsters are the safest bet, providing protection without endangering the family jewels.

The 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas

Paul Huebl at the 2014 Shot Show
Las Vegas, NV--some 67.000 people came to Sin City from every corner of the globe to celebrate firearms.  Exhibitors and firearms trade professionals came to town. Most everyone was armed however there were no murders or accidents involving people associated with this event.

I can be found hanging out with the fine folks at Eagle Grips and hope for a moment to go out and shoot and edit some video.

Rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent has a little fun with his long time friend Raj Singh, President of Eagle Grips. You can see that below.

I have a lot of video to edit and will do so as time permits.

Let's Bankrupt Los Angeles! Here's how!

Los Angeles, CA—Gun rights haters are dancing in the bloodof the children murdered by that well known mentally ill Sandy Hook killer.  When he could not buy a gun froma sporting goods store he murdered his own mother and robbed her of herguns.  We know the rest.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced Monday thatthe city’s annual gun “buyback” event has been moved up following the SandyHook murders.   They moved it up bymonths to December 26, 2012
Bring your rusty and unserviceable crap firearms from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. on Dec. 26 at two locations: Los Angeles Sports Arena, Parking Lot 6,at 3939 South Figueroa Street and Van Nuys Masonic Temple at 14750 Sherman Way.  This a no questions asked event so they can’tmake you prove you did not come in from Arizona and Nevada!
They will pay you $100.00 for any handgun, rifle or shotgun.  If they deem it an “assault weapon” you get$200.00.   They will pay you with giftcards instead of cash so use them up on your way out of town.  Then buy some new guns, ammunition and getsome custom grips from Eagle Grips!
Since they are using tax dollars enjoy your windfall with avengeance.  I only hope we can bankruptLos Angeles for this symbolic and wasteful foolishness.

Why Gun Control Laws and Bans Always Fail

Washington, DC—I ‘m not sure what gun control zealots consume in their diets that motivates them to disregard their own duty to protect themselves and their families.  We call all thank our survival on the gift of fear and the instinct to survive.  I will never let any politician dictate that I submit to a criminal attack and neither should you!
I guess some people think that 911 and government is adequate at least for their needs.  We know that’s foolish because they cant stop deadly violence even in the most controlled setting of all, maximum security prisons.  Humans have proven to be the most dangerous animals on earth.
Gun Registration:
This was thought to be a tool to give police a way to trace guns used in crimes to the owner/suspect.  They also thought that maybe police need to know if there is a gun behind the doors that they knock on answering calls for service.  The opponents of registration suggest that it’s a scheme to aid government in planned future confiscation efforts.
Criminals never leave their guns behind at the scene of crimes unless they are wounded or are killed there.   With the suspect dead or in custody the gun’s ownership has no value.  If the gun was stolen there will be a report on file and the owner can be notified and his property returned.
Only law-abiding qualified owners can be required to register firearms.  If that does not sound fair or reasonable we need only to look at two US Supreme Court opinions that held that making felons and mental defectives register their guns violates their self-incrimination rights.  Registration requires they confess their crime of gun ownership.
Any cop that fails to assume that there in not a dangerous felon with an gun behind every door they visit will not survive in our world.  Cops are trained treat every door as an equal hazard until proven otherwise.
The two most egregious factors of gun registration is the high cost to administer the programs that have zero value in crime reduction and the requirement that owners sacrifice basic privacy rights.
Owning a car and a gun are not similar.  Owning a car is not a constitutional right but a government granted privilege.  Owning a gun is constitutional protected activity.
Gun Bans:
These are by far the most ineffective laws.  Criminals by nature don’t give a rat’s ass about any laws.   In addition police cannot search criminals or their dwellings without probable cause and or warrants.
Making quality firearms has never been easier or cheaper to do.  With today's computer aided CNC machines simple semi-automatic rifles like the AK-47 can be manufactured quickly with minimal skills.   Any CNC machine operator making thousands of other products can switch to guns in a heartbeat. Ammunition manufacturing is so simple millions of Americans do that at home every day.
As with drug bans the gun bans will create additional criminal cartels filling the needs of people willing to pay cash.
We’ve banned drugs and know only too well that our addicts in in no danger of being cut off from their supplies.
Mexico has had a long-standing total ban on firearms.  That’s not worked out too well for them or the families of the 50,000 murdered there last year by the banned firearms.
Chicago, Washington DC and New York have had nearly total bans in place for decades.  Of course they are by far the most dangerous cities in America simply because only criminals have guns.
Gun Free Zones:
The gun control zealots got the grand idea to create and mark Gun Free Zones where gun possession is not tolerated.  Any recent massacres in the last tor or three decades are in these Gun Free Zones where criminals are well protected by the government!
Gun Shows:
The gun control zealots have singled out gun shows as places to to vent their anger.  I challenge anyone to give a single example of a rape, robbery or murder at any gun show in American history.  Millions of guns on display at thousands of shows and not a single violent event!
Relaxed Concealed Carry Laws and Violence:
State after state has relaxed laws and ban to the carrying of loaded guns by the law-abiding.  The gun control zealots told every state legislature that allowing the carrying of guns will lead to massive bloodshed.
The experience of the states that allow concealed weapons has been the exact opposite of what the gun control zealots have predicted.  Families are safer because they have the right to meaningful self-defense.
Gun Accidents:
Gun accidents have never been a significant problem in America.  We have nearly one gun for every man woman and child in civilian possession right now.  Both our population and the number of guns have never been higher but gun accidents are at an all time low.
Cops Hate Gun Control Laws:
Politicians love to claim that law enforcement supports gun bans and restrictions.  They are talking only for the chiefs and superintendents that they appoint, never the rank and file street cop.  Police chiefs are politically appointed and must share the views of their mayors.  Street cops all know better as their own lives are on the line every day.
The Gun Control Debate
Every time gun control is discussed and debated in America logic wins with our population.  Politicians have learned that they will be punished at the polls for restricting American’s self-defense rights.  They have not forgotten the massive wrath of voters after they passed the now expired so-called Assault Weapons Ban in 1994.  The voters appear smarter then the people they elect.

The mainstream media has a curious policy of following Liberal politicians straight to Hell and their slant has been countered by the new media.

The Folly of Carrying Exposed Weapons

Los Angeles, CA—I hear many questions about carrying exposed weapons. The inquiries are always from the few states that ban carry generally. Some think exposed carry is a way to self defense. Exposed carry is nearly always a bad idea.

Before protective vests and better holsters over 50% of cops killed, were murdered with their own guns! Lesser trained civilians won’t have it any better.

Carrying exposed firearms makes people targets. You may become target of strong armed robbers looking to arm themselves with your gun.. You will become an object of ridicule and scorn from drunks and others that see you armed. Frankly today, the sight of a civilian carrying a gun provokes some unreasonable folks into a breach of the peace. Last but not least is exposed carry generates phony reports to the police of aggravated assault.

If someone sees your gun and accuses you of pointing it at them police will respond and investigate. When they have a witness/victim and you have the gun, your chances of being wrongfully arrested and even convicted of a felony are huge without independent witnesses or video.

Carrying an exposed gun places you in physical danger and may destroy your reputation as a law-abiding citizen. With that comes, incarceration, job loss, home foreclosure, divorce and disgrace. It’s far less risky to discreetly carry a concealed gun even if it violates some politician’s gun ban.

If you feel the need to carry a firearm in defense of yourself and family don’t let unconstitutional laws stop you. Carry your gun concealed but as always avoid conflict when possible. Why demand exposed carry when you can simply demand the right to conceal your weapon and thereby avoid breaches of the peace?

Shooting With the Stars in Van Nuys, CA

Van Nuys, CA—Despite some of the worst gun laws in the nation people in L.A. still have access to firearms for self-defense. There is a conveniently located indoor range that is frequented by some surprising Hollywood celebrities that received their training and maintain their shooting skills at THE TARGET RANGE.

If you own a firearm for personal protection, that’s only a small part of your needs. Training in efficient use of the weapon and the laws and liability of the justifiable use of deadly force is a must.

There are two types of training you can receive, a civilian course or the more intense Security Firearms Program. The latter is the course mandated for security personal such as armored car drivers and bodyguards. I have always recommended the Security Firearms course for civilians too.

The security Firearms course deals with safety, marksmanship, weapons-retention along with a good dose of law surrounding use of force with follow up written testing. This is really not a difficult course but will give you the best bang for the buck. It may keep you from making a mistake that could threaten your liberty should you need to shoot in the gravest extreme.

At The Target range is Valley Guard Training where you can get a real pro to give you what you need to both protect your life and your liberty. The primary trainer at Valley Guard Training is, Alan Kushner. Mr. Kushner provides the tools to men and women that will keep them safe and inspire their confidence.

As for celebrity self-protection Mr. Kushner is definitely the go-to guy for some meaningful anti-stalking immunization tips.

The facility has a wide range of handguns available for training and purchase.

Handguns and concealment methods

I have gotten requests for information on the best ways to carry handguns for both men and women.

Let me begin by saying we come in different shapes and sizes. This is never a one size fits all solution. We have what we have and must work with it.

I want to advise women against carrying firearms in purses. You may inadvertently arm a purse snatcher and too often women put their purses too close to children. There are great handbags for guns made by Galco Gunleather. They can be also locked if needed but it defeats the purpose of having a gun ready for immediate use.

If you’re going to carry a gun in a purse I say use a Galco product with a shoulder strap. Keep the purse very close on your weak side of your body. It can work as a De facto shoulder holster if kept strictly under control.

Galco handbags are as fashionable as you can find anywhere in the world. They are also better made than those by designers known for quality.

For well-fed men and women there are lots of options. Shoulder holsters can be great for men and women wearing jackets or opaque outer shirts and sweaters. It depends on the size of the gun and your upper body configuration.

Belt holsters can stick out through clothing like a red flag. There are low profile holsters that keep the guns close.

I’d avoid gimmicky holsters like the ones hiding behind phony pagers and such.

There are belly band style holsters. I like those that are made from elastic and nylon material to wear under shirts or other tops. They should be worn over a t-shirt (or camisole for women) to keep the gun away from your skin and body salt. There is also the issue of comfort.

Ankle holsters for the most part are uncomfortable and should be avoided by anyone who does a lot of walking and running. They are fine for someone working in a retail establishment in confined areas. You are limited by size to what you can conceal on an ankle. Boots and guns don’t mix well unless you’re into pain. You must remember tha is very difficult to run and draw a gun from an ankle holster.

Mexican carry is a real option. That means no holster. This works for larger guns provided you wear a strong and tight belt so you gun does not slide down your pants. This is also over a t-shirt at the minimum. Don’t try this with guns such as the Glock with its sensitive trigger because it’s downright dangerous.

There are only a few holster companies that make decent and safe products. They should design holsters your safety in mind. Sometimes you will find a very usable holster for your gun somewhere but be careful because some holsters can be more like booby traps when their safety snaps inadvertently move the safety levers of semi-auto pistols to the fire position.

The flagship holsters are made by Galco Gunleather. I’ve been using Galco products for forty years and they are the best found anywhere. They insist upon perfection and their research and development with their products is exceptional.

Let concealment work for you by keeping surprise on your side. Don’t tell business associates and friends that you carry a gun because in an emergency they may “out” you and put you at a disadvantage. You can avoid explanations about why you chose to carry a gun. You will also spare those irrational people you know from going into hyper-ventilation over your choice to stay protected.

Always carry as large a caliber gun as you possibly can. If you need it even a .45 ACP gun seems inadequate especially if you have more than one assailant to deal with.

The Galco Gunleather website is here.

Daley Says He Will Find Ways Around The Law To Deny Gun Rights!

Chicago, Il—For 30 years politicians in the Windy City have aided violent criminals by keeping law-abiding people disarmed through a gun ban. Local government here has enabled violent crime rather than fight it.

Mayor Richard M. Daley is emotionally, pathologically and insanely motivated to find ways to circumvent the United States Supreme Court’s expected gun rights ruling in the McDonald case.

For nearly a half hour Daley used a table laden with guns as movie props to express his hatred for them and Chicagoans right to keep and bear them.

Daley made it clear he will dictate new laws designed to frustrate those who want the means to defend themselves and families with firearms. Daley will demand liability insurance, excessive training and extortionate taxation. Liability insurance for gun misuse is not offered anywhere and if there was such a thing Daley knows it would be unaffordable.

Daley falsely claims that without the gun ban the murder rate would be 30% higher. Every study ever conducted shows gun laws have increased murder rates and that millions of American citizens use guns to stop violent crimes without even firing a single shot.

Daley is a lawless thug using color of law to violate the Constitutional rights of citizens. All lawless thugs including Daley need to be stopped cold. They are a cancer in our government that needs to be cut out.

Liberty Rules In Arizona!

Phoenix, AZ—Governor Jan Brewer signed into law a significant measure of liberty for all law-abiding citizens. Carrying a concealed weapon is no longer a crime. No permits are required but the gun-packing people must not be convicted felons, mental defects or drug addicts. Those convicted of domestic violence are also prohibited. To enjoy the new liberty you must be at least 21 years of age. I call it a "new" liberty since it has been gone so long.

Arizona now joins Vermont and Alaska as states that have fully legalized self-defense.

Those Arizonans that wish to carry their weapons in the 40 or so states that recognize Arizona CCW permits should keep renewing theirs. Also the display of the CCW permits during police traffic stops will be appreciated by police officers.

The current process by the Department of public safety to issue CCW permits will continue for those wishing to obtain them.

Just because the training requirement has been discontinued does not mean training is not important. The training can save lives and keep you out of jail. Knowing the laws and liability of the justifiable use of deadly force is very important for anyone that refuses to be a crime victim. Contact the NRA or the Arizona State Rifle Association for training referrals. The Department of Public safety has a list of training schools on their website too.

The new law takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, probably putting the effective date in July or August. I don’t suspect that cops, prosecutors or the courts will want to do much with people that jump the gun on the timing of the new law.

Actors handling Guns As Props

Here is gun-rights hater Sly Stallone in Action…

Los Angeles, CA—I have heard the horror stories of actors handling firearms. I have seen it first hand in projects I’ve been involved with.

It begins as an actor sees a gun on a prop table with a "Do Not Touch" sign. You hear the actor say how he or she hates guns and the next thing you see is the actor with the gun in hand with a finger on the trigger!

In too many cases the unnecessary gun handling escalates to horseplay and someone gets hurt. Such a case unfolded as a young Utah stage actor shot and killed himself with a blank round designed for theatrical use. At close range blanks firing simple gun powder without bullets can be deadly. Deaths, burns and eye injuries are very rare but do happen on movie sets

For unknown reasons, putting, “Do Not Touch” signs of gun props don’t help. Of course there are actors that know firearms and safety rules. The movie companies generally provide so called gun wranglers to manage set gun safety. The slightest lapse of vigilance by a gun wrangler can bring an accident.

Some really dumb actors have a habit of treating expensive firearms like cheap toys. A percentage of actors love to throw them onto concrete or gravel during rehearsals. They aren’t smart enough to wait for the gun wrangler to set up a pad to capture a fallen or thrown weapon.

There are two major prop houses that supply firearms to film producers of every description. The collections of these suppliers are as good as it gets. I’ve been in these places and have found them run by real pros that are constantly fighting inane gun laws.

As the prop houses fight for the continued ability to make realistic movies as the writers, producers, actors and directors are supporting every possible restriction on firearms. These anti-gun rights, entertainment activists all consider themselves experts because they’ve handled a few guns under the watchful eyes of gun wranglers.

Iraq Needs The NRA

Everyone thinks that the NRAis single minded and only fights for gun rights.

The NRA is the number one trainer for police organizations and civilians alike. The training has made Americans safe as they have taught gun owners how to effectively hit their targets.

Iraq gun owning population along with folks in the entire Mideast love to celebrate with their firearms. They don't have the NRA but really need their services. As you can see in this video some don’t always pay attention to simple safety rules.

What a worthless friend the dumbass is who made the video not to warn about the impending disaster. Don’t let this happen to you…
