Weis Cowardice Makes the New York Times!
Chicago, IL--At least here the Daley/Burke Crime Family controlled Chicago media has obviously put a blackout on this story. The New York Times has not swept it under the national rug however as they covered this and other problems facing Chicagoans bracing for a very violent summer.
Chicago cops loath their police superintendent and city administration more than ever. It is not a good time to live or work in Chicago. Avoiding all city events such as the Taste of Chicsgo is advisable in this climate.
The NY Times left out some important and highly relevant facts that can be counted on to contribute to violence such as wholesale prisoner releases and the skyrocketing unemployment rate. Of course self-defense has been outlawed in Chicago for three decades of a gun ban so only criminals are armed.
It was Good Friday when Chicago police superintendent Jody Weis fled on camera from an in progress fatal shooting. The killer of Reggie Myers escaped because not enough police made it to the scene quickly enough. The shots could be heard on tape and Weis' now legendary sound bite, “Gotta run!” was made. That, as Weis fled from a CBS2 reporter and any personal danger.
You can read the New York Times article here.
Here is the “Gotta run!” video:

Weis Laments Chicago’s Code of Silence, Demands More Gun Control
Chicago, IL—Chicago’s police superintendent, Jody Weis blames a “code of silence” and a lack of gun laws for the spike in cold blooded murder. Wasn’t the City of Chicago declared a Gun Free Zone three decades ago?
Weis said that even the dying victims of shooting refuse to reveal the names of their killers. He complained that the lack cooperation by the community was the reason the shootings go unsolved. Weis devoted much of the nearly half-hour press conference to complaining that there are not enough gun bans and promised another lobbying effort in Springfield to end what few gun rights citizens have in Illinois.
Image: Artwork (c) 2008 John Hardin http://www.impsec.org/~jhardin/
Is Weis so stupid that he can’t figure out that the community knows that they can’t be protected by an undermanned, underpaid and poorly equipped police department?
Is Weis so stupid that he can’t figure out that law-abiding and forcibly unarmed citizens would be crazy to cooperate with police? Clearly you have a community where people are forbidden to protect themselves and the police are unable to protect them.
Is Weis so stupid that he does not realize that the cops working in the trenches want to see thugs stopped by trained and armed citizens that are willing to protect themselves, their families and businesses?
Is Weis so stupid he does not know that gun bans have never reduced gun crime, but in fact increases it?
Is Weis so stupid that he can’t understand that guns in the hands of the law-abiding save lives?
Weis actually said that without guns people can’t murder. Weis needs to pay a visit to the medical examiner who can explain how thousands have died over the years from fists, feet, rocks, sticks and knives. Of course there is plenty of strangulation, arson, bombing and using motor vehicles as deadly weapons.
This is a case where Chicago’s politicians and bureaucrats are so incredibly out of touch with reality. There is no hope under this corrupt and incompetent administration for this once great and relatively safe city to survive.
I have two videos. The first one shows surveillance video of a shotgun wielding thug robbing a Chicago dry cleaner and terrorizing the people behind the counter.
The second is the afternoon press conference given by Jody Weis. Noticeably missing was a single question about his running away from that in progress shooting/homicide two weeks ago. I guess Chicago’s reporters are too afraid of being cut off from police information to dare ask anything embarrassing.

Seven Dead Overnight In Continued Chicago Genocide
Chicago, IL—The African-American carnage is triggered every time the Windy City’s weather improves. The Ghetto Rats bring out their banned guns and slaughter their own species.
These mad dog killers are facilitated because the ineffectiveness of a police command staff rife with City Hall cronyism instead of needed qualifications. That, as the mayor and city council has allowed the manpower to shrink well below a critical rate.
Superintendent Jody Weis has been conspicuously absent since he was accused of cowardice for running from the scene of a fatal shooting where the killer escaped two weeks ago.
Chicago will continue to bathe in blood as long as these dangerous killers are emboldened by an overwhelmed police department and gun laws that are only effective against law abiding Chicagoans.

Where Is The Explanation By Jody Weis?
Chicago, IL—Ten days ago Chicago police superintendent Jody Weis fled the scene of an in progress shooting. He and his police driver failed to check the on the safety of subordinate officers or innocent bystanders. The armed killer escaped because there were not enough police officers to seal off the area.
Weiss was caught on tape during a television interview with CBS2 reporter Kristyn Hartman as shots were ringing out. Weis gave his famous, “I gotta run!” sound bite. Run he did and at this point he should simply keep on running while not looking back.
Since that disgraceful demonstration of cowardice, Weis has been in hiding. Weis knows he was despised by the rank and file officers before that fateful Friday and now he’s been branded a coward too.
Weis now knows there is no PR magic that can save him. Weis should face reality and be a man long enough to apologize to the officers who risked their lives at that deadly scene for abandoning them. Then Weis should then submit his resignation.
The department is badly shattered and must be rebuilt. That can’t happen with all the promotions based on connections, clout and racial formula shenanigans rather than fitness for the positions.
For the rank and file cops, a fair contract, necessary manpower adjustments and proper equipment can’t be avoided any longer. The department is in an absolute crisis. The coming warm weather along with tens of thousands of idle, angry young men and freed prison convicts competing for control of the streets may bring a holocaust.

Game Over For J-Fed
Chicago, IL—With impossible to defend allegations of cowardice, a nearly total lack of support by Chicago’s finest and the department in a management quagmire Jody Weis has little choice but to move on.
Since the cowardice allegation backed by solid videotape surfaced last Friday Weis has been in hiding. He’s not returning reporter’s calls, and has absented himself from meetings.
Weis is at the end of his three-year contract and his rope. There’s no way Weis can ever recover the respect of the rank and file officers. The leadership void is at crisis level as what looks to be a violent summer approaches.
I expect a resignation announcement at any moment.
As for Mayor Richard M. Daley he must quickly find a new superintendent that can somehow end the chaos within the department. Daley needs to pull out the stops to deal with manpower, equipment and contract issues. I can’t imagine Daley rehabilitating his act now. The City council is loaded with thugs, thieves and liars that need to be investigated, removed and imprisoned.
The victims of the mess will be the few taxpayers left that have seen their investments in the city evaporate. Even sadder will be the increase in property crimes and violence fueled by among other things wholesale prisoner releases and massive unemployment. As businesses suffer they will begin to lay of what’s left of their help and shut down altogether.
In a way Jody Weis will be lucky to have left the sinking ship. The new superintendent will inherit a disaster.

The Amy Jacobson Radio Show Investigates allegations of Cowardice
WIND-AM 560--Thursday 8:30 AM
Chicago, IL—The story of Chicago police superintendent Jody Weis public relations nightmare has gone viral. His now famous “gotta go” video is making the rounds to law enforcement officers all over the country.
Amy Jacobson will have retired police sergeant John Northen and the mystery detective behind the Shaved “L.C.” Blog site as guests. I’ve been asked to call it too. It should be an interesting drive time radio show.
Instead of dealing with the official complaint made by John Northen, Weis has apparently gone into hiding. He’s sent his PR flaks out to smear Northern for once suing the department over the selection process for lieutenants. One called the complaint absurd.
We have yet to hear from Weis himself. Weis has yet to surface and tell us about what was so pressing that he could not assist fellow officers and endangered members of the public at the scene of an in-progress fatal shooting.
Weis can never recover from this cowardice allegation without a really convincing excuse. He’s had over five days to dream something up and seems stumped. There is little choice but for him to do what he promised and that was leave is he fails to maintain the support of rank and file officers. That time has come and gone, so perhaps Weis will simply say goodbye. Weis is just too radio-active and toxic to continue as the superintendent of Chicago police.
We will be all ears!
Update: Weis abruptly cancelled the meeting he had planned for today at the Budlong Woods Library on North Lincoln Avenue. This is yet another solid sign of the end of his reign. Who will Daley appoint now?
In case you missed the stunning video…

Why J-Fed Failed As Chicago’s Police Superintendant
Chicago, IL—Twice in my lifetime rank and file Chicago cops have handed down a no-confidence vote on a police superintendent. That last time that happened was to former superintendent Matt Rodriquez, who was paling around with a notorious convicted felon.
The Fraternal Order of Police just took a vote and Jody Weis was invited to leave the department by the working cops of Chicago. This vote came after little more than a year on the job.
Jody Weis was a square peg in a round hole since the day the mayor appointed him. Weis was never a street cop and could not relate to them. His wearing a uniform he never earned was a big mistake as was his effort to model the department after weightlifting steroid using muscle heads.
The biggest problem Weiss had was the direction from City Hall. The mayor and influential members of the City Council wanted to give the more vocal local African-American reverends the ability to create police policy. Police work is difficult enough to do without creating a climate of fear causing officers to shirk their sworn duty rather than become whipping boys for police haters.
If Weis had any potential to be a good leader for the department City Hall obstructed any positive efforts. Weis is in a no-win situation. The people pulling Weis’ strings simply don’t want an effective police department.
Every cop knows if they avoid conflict with criminals they will never get fired, indicted or suspended over false allegations. There is little reason for cops to do more than to avoid all conflicts and actual law enforcement.
This no-confidence vote is really more about Mayor Richard M. Daley and Uber-Alderman, Edward M. Burke. Chicago’s ignorant voters keep reelecting these fellows and the voters got what they wanted and deserved.
These politicians relentlessly demand and promote unconstitutional gun bans that do nothing but reinforce the authority of Chicago’s armed criminals over the disarmed and defenseless, law-abiding citizens. They have managed to turn good cops into unresponsive props. The City Hall crime control program keeps the thugs, thieves and extortionists in power by design.
Chicago does not deserve the few taxpayers they have left. Many thousands of productive people just like me voted with our feet and left this once great city. Soon there will be nobody left in Chicago but a parasitic population feeding on itself.

Police, Internal Investigations and Exoneration
Chicago, IL—Chicago police Superintendent Jody Weis was take to the US District Court woodshed by Judge Robert Gettleman for his initial failure to turn over records kept by the department concerning past citizen’s allegations of misconduct against cops.
This was avoidable had the Chicago Police Department done what’s reasonable and fair to officers cleared by investigations.
The cleared officers have a right to see bogus complaints thrown out with the garbage instead of collected and stored for future litigant's and media fishing expeditions.
The department refuses to prosecute criminals who waste investigator’s valuable time by making false reports against officers. The law dictates that people be prosecuted for making false police reports but command officers have always obstructed justice by failure to do their sworn duty in that regard.
The records then should be inventoried as evidence in the criminal actions against the people making false police reports, where they belong instead of personnel files.
If J-Fed really wanted to protect the officers he and the city could have established a policy to shred records where officers have been cleared. Certainly they need not keep those records longer than the statue of limitations for filing claims and lawsuits.
Had the city adopted a fair policy for the officers this would not have been the embarrassment it became. It’s time to change the policy

J-Fed Earned Some Serious Credibility With Chicago Cops.
Chicago, IL—It was October 8th 2005 when Chicago police officer Michael Mette of the Fillmore District was attacked by a Dubuque college student, 20-year-old Jake Gothard while attending a birthday celebration at his brother’s home. Before it was over this week, officer Mette was arrested, prosecuted, convicted and now faces a mandatory five-year Iowa prison term.
Iowa justice is beyond strange because at a Dubuque County Court bench trial the judge, Judge Monica Ackley found that Chicago Police Officer Mette "was not the initial aggressor of this incident," Jake Gothard was. Astonishingly, Judge Ackley ruled that Mette was guilty, because even after Gothard struck him three times, Mette should have just ignored it and retreated.
Officer Mette's infamous felony crime was to punch the 6 foot, 2 inch tall Gothard once in self-defense knocking him out. Gothard has demonstrated his inability to hold his liquor landing on local court dockets on a regular basis. Mette has been serving hard time in an Iowa prison while he appeals that dubious conviction to the Iowa Supreme Court.
Cook County State's Attorney Richard Devine, Chicago Police Superintend Jody Weis and other officials have stood up for Mette by requesting a Pardon from Iowa Governor Culver.
Let’s hope the Iowa Supreme Court sees the error of Judge Ackley’s verdict and findings. If the Iowa Supreme Court does the right thing or a Pardon is granted I hope to see Mike Mette back in his Chicago police uniform soon.
As for J-Fed He still has to mend some fences in order to lead the department, but this is a big step in the right direction.

Chicago Is In A Real Law Enforcement Crisis
Chicago—I spent nearly a week in my birthplace learning about the ticking metropolitan time bomb.
During my Chicago travel I drove around 018, 019 and 023 the most. I rarely saw any marked police vehicles in the affluent or yuppie neighborhoods.
I interviewed a dozen cops in 001,012,018, 019,023 and at O’Hare. The neighborhoods of these police districts included Downtown, Old Town, New Town, Lakeview, Wriglyville and the near West side.
In order to insure candid interviews I promised the officers that I would not identify them as sources for this article. The answers came as if I had only interviewed only one cop rather than a dozen.
The officers said they were in a mess. They fear for their jobs, pensions and families. They are all riding 99 (the radio designation for one man cars) even during peak hours for violent criminal activity.
These days the officers I talked with will no longer make stops on cars with multiple suspicious occupants. The officers are also reluctant to make any contact with large groups of gang types in rough neighborhoods for the same reason. The dangers are twofold, physical danger and the very real danger of unwarranted race based complaints.
The officers view their duties as that of report takers and crime scene clean-up crews always responding after the fact.
None of the officers I talked to believe they have the support of the administration. The officers feel they are expendable because they see so many fellow officers humiliated and striped of their stars and police powers after bogus complaints.
The department is substantially undermanned because of retirements and a large portion of officers on medical leave or light duty. The officers told me many, if not most the officers are abusing medical excuses because the morale is at an all time low. One officer said, “Why go to a job you have grown to hate when you can be paid to stay home?”
Some officers complained about being out gunned and don’t really believe they will ever see the M-4 carbines J-Fed said were being issued to the officers. Some cited the lack of in-service firearm training and 30 rounds per year ammunition allotment as a sick joke.
Others revealed that promotions within the department these days have little to do with qualifications, ability or fairness. The civil service system has been scrapped to accommodate sexual paramours, political hacks and race based shenanigans.
Many officers feel they’ve become the whipping boys for the media. They say reporters hate officers and the mission of the police. The officers feel that most of Chicago’s reporters are simply programmed products of politically, Far Left Liberal college professors.
I asked the officers each about Chicago’s gun control laws and for their opinion. The officers all told me that the city’s gun ban worked against them. Some told me that small business owners can’t fight robbery or extortion and the thugs take full advantage of the situation.
When I asked about concealed weapon permits for law abiding citizens every officer I interviewed said it would be a good idea.

How Humiliating!
Chicago—I just got off the plane at O’Hare and the very first thing I see is J-Fed’s sour puss with this headline!
Okay, now I must defend poor J-Fed. We have to remember J-Fed’s never been a street cop and just does not know the job. That’s not J-Fed’s fault, but the clowns that hired him to be the city’s top cop.
Next J-Fed inherited both a horrible public policy and a mandate that he support the Mayor’s unlawful and un-American gun control policy straight to Hell.
The law-abiding are forcibly disarmed and at the mercy of murderous thugs while an incredibly undermanned and outgunned police department just can’t cope.
Every day the problem gets worse. The only answer is to respect the law-abiding people’s gun rights. Create workable, concealed weapon training and permit program.
J-Fed should simply collect his $300 K per year and pretend the mayor is right.

Second City Cop site disabled. --open post
I'm sorry to tell you that the SCC site has been disabled for as long as four days. Feel free to post information here as an open post at least until the site is operational.
I’m not sure just what’s going on but I won’t rule out sabotage by Daley and J-Fed. I’m sure they don’t want the daily body count information along with the failings of the department getting publicized. SCC is needed to keep the heat on in order to keep them honest.
Keep the comments clean please.
Update Second City Cop is back in good order.

Sensational Crime and 100 Years of the FBI
As the Federal Bureau of Investigation is ready to celebrate 100 years of existence they put up their top 100 cases for history hungry crime buffs. They did leave out their daring Martha Stewart pinch, and that’s a good thing.
I think J.Edgar Hoover has rolled over in his grave a few times since his death. That as the face of the FBI has changed from actor Jimmy Stewarts’s image to today’s metrosexual, minority and women of the new bureau who are now in charge. Along with those changes the bureau has been handed additional jurisdiction over common street crimes.
Whatever your opinion of the bureau may be their top 100 cases were definitely made for the silver screen.
Read about them here!

Chicago Police Recruit Weapon Uniformity
Glock is the current winner of this contest. Officers are limited to using the Glock at least until they complete probation.
Superintendent J-Fed wants everyone to use the same weapon and there are valid reasons to do that for a military infantry unit. However it’s not so necessary for street cops as long as the firearms are functional and safe.
Officers will be stuck using the crap 9MM round so we can count on hearing people complain and demand to know why the cops are firing so many rounds at suspects.
My only concern is every officer knows how to use their own gun and that of any partner they may have. Chicago cops must locate and purchase their own firearms using fund from their uniform allowance.
I’m surprised Daley did not allow the local reverends decide what the officers could carry. The problem is that both Alderman Ed Burke and Daley have taxpayer funded bodyguards they don’t want to see equipped with rubber guns.
Here’s more about this story.

Chicago Police And Physical Fitness
Being a cop is not good for anyone’s health unless they’re assigned to bicycle or mounted patrol. Cops sit in a patrol vehicle answering calls and do minimal walking.
Cops never run on the job except when chasing offenders now and then. Cops eating habits are horrible because they don’t get to plan their lunch breaks. The number three on the McDonalds menu is the rut cops fall into.
Regular exercise for the most part is non-existent for too many cops.
The only cure for this is to give cops a 45 minute workout period before they begin their tour of duty. Paying them to exercise is cost effective when it keeps cops off the medical roles and covering insurance cost for their heart attacks.
Being a cop means that once they hit mandatory retirement at 63, they won’t be collecting their pensions for very long.
Some districts where our cops patrol have a serious shortage of clean and nutritious places to eat. Firemen are able to plan and make great meals to rival mom’s home cooking.
J-Fed seems to be trying to figure out a way to put cops into better shape. Any way at all but, allowing cops to work out on city time like our firemen. Ever notice that firemen are so much more fit then cops?
Too many Chicago cops are only one foot chase closer to a major heart attack.

J-Fed Met with The Troops
Chicago--Daley appointed an overpaid law enforcement bureaucrat that will never enjoy success under the corrupt anti-police city administration.
The meeting was attended by 100 to 200 officers. Second City Cop readers and another fine blogger, Rue St Michael Bienvenue recorded the minutes for posterity.
J-Fed had nothing concrete to offer the undermanned, poorly equipped and demoralized officers. There were a few gripes put forth that J-Fed is taking under advisement.
Little was settled but J-Fed is figuring out he has no clue about the street police work he’s supposed to be running.
O.W. Wilson came in as a civilian but he was once a street cop before he became a criminologist and professor. J-Fed was a federal paper pusher.
J-Fed would do well to lose the uniform and gain respect. He needs to figure out how to get the worthless mayor and city council to bring the department into the 21st Century. J-Fed needs to deal with manpower, equipment deficiencies. Nobody can be expected to work where promotions are based on clout, race and sex quotas rather than ability and knowledge.
I have two words for J-Fed, short term. The real problem is a city administration mired in corruption and greed rather than any concern for public service.

M-4 Carbine Authorized For Chicago Beat Cops
So says, J-Fed, Chicago’s new police superintendant. I won’t hold my breath waiting for this to really happen considering the current ammunition allotment and yearly requalification for the officer’s handgun use.
The M-4's must be purchased and some kind of qualification schedule must be implemented. Then the carbines must be distributed. Steps need to be taken to maintain control over these weapons so the local natives don’t steal them.
One thing for sure it won’t happen in time for the heat of Chicago’s summer or homicide season. This is just going to be another example of too little, too late.
Needless to say the press is already exaggerating the power and capabilities of these weapons. No folks they don’t fire magic bullets that explode in a ball of fire on impact. Chicago’s reverends will be screaming about cops being sent hunt the Black youth with weapons of war instead of hugs and free money.
Hey J-Fed! I like these too. How about getting 5000 of these babies to keep our cops safe?

Chicago Police Officers Look Like A Major Train Wreck!
Photo “borrowed” from today’s Sun Times…
On the mirrors at the old O'Brien Street, Chicago Police Academy and in all districts there was a slogan, “Does your appearance command respect?” I don’t recognize this dirty dozen but they look like the vagrants I used to lock up for safekeeping.
There’s nothing uniform about these officers except their shameful appearance. J-Fed needs to do what former Superintendant O.W. Wilson did and crack down on the officer’s personal image.
Protective vests should be under the uniform shirts or be less obvious. Those tragically and beyond ugly ball caps would make minimum wage security guards look bad if that's possible.
The proper Chicago Police field cap needs to return to properly groomed heads.
I believe that it’s long overdue for all Chicago officers including supervisors to wear dark blue shirts. Light blue and white shirts stand out like brightly lit targets at night.
I would ask that all the individual officers to please do what the department won’t make them do and clean up this mess on their own.

New Chicago Police Superintendent Insults Rank And File Officers
The respectful custom began with a very large man, Orlando W. Wilson, Chicago’s first civilian police superintendant. Before Wilson the title for Chicago’s top cop was Chief like every other police department. Wilson was very different and so was his management. Wilson was a cop long before he became a criminologist and professor. Wilson knew about going to domestic violence calls and closing down rowdy bars at 2:00 AM. Wilson never attended the Chicago Police Academy or patrolled Chicago’s streets. Wilson had enough respect to never wear that uniform and star he did not earn. Wilson always wore a suit.
Former FBI Special Agent Jody Weiss never patrolled any street in America or attended the Chicago Police Academy. Weiss never heard the slightest discouraging word from the lips of an angry traffic violator or Slid Row vagrant, but he quickly dressed himself in a uniform he never earned. I suspect that will be one of many steps that will alienate him from real street cops.
Chicago’s Finest nicknamed their new boss, J-Fed. I suspect that cops in Chicago are in for a very turbulent period until J-Fed at least until he gets his walking papers from the next mayor.
J-Fed, that uniform just does not fit you...
