Stolen Valor Designated by the Supreme Court as Free Speech

David Grove, Fake War Hero
Washington, DC—Most true heroes I’ve met are somewhat slow to talk about their exploits to strangers. Okay, I will make an exception for decorated politicians. There are cemeteries filled real heroes. There are lots real heroes that have never been recognized for their selfless acts.

We give medals, admiration and our thanks to those who risked life and limb to save others. Then there is the valor thief who brags about dangerous missions and exploits that never happened. These are total jerks that con their way through life. They do this to get employment, trust and attention from potential sex partners. There is usually some kind of ill-gotten gain involved.

Thankfully today there are military databases that list those who have won distinguished awards that can be used to expose some of the fraudsters.

I served my country as an Army Medical corpsman in Cold War Germany somehow escaping combat in Viet Nam. Frankly the only danger I saw came from fellow soldiers that like to get drunk and fight. I don’t know how to explain this, but I’m as proud of my service as I would if I’d have won the Congressional Medal of Honor

I have to admit that I do sometimes think sadly about those brave young souls, my peers, who died perhaps in my place. The Viet Nam War was my war. I was drafted because of it and believed in the concept that our precious and rapidly evaporating freedom was earned at a heavy price. Lady Luck or the Good Lord was looking out for me.

The Broadway hit musical, Miss Saigon that recreates the fall of South Vietnam tears at my heartstrings whenever I see it or listen to the soundtrack. The Leftist cowards in our Congress double-crossed the people of South Viet Nam and facilitated the holocaust at Pol Pot’s killing fields. I can’t help but imagine the abject terror of those trying to escape on overloaded helicopters sent to evacuate them from the roof of the US Embassy.

I can’t imagine having such an empty worthless life that making crap up could ever be considered an option. I guess some jerks feel little or no shame being exposed as a valor thieves. The use of stolen valor or for that matter any lie for financial gain should always be a serious crime.

I also think of an old friend, Joe Foss. Foss was a WWII flying ace that redundantly risked his life in the Pacific in mortal air combat with suicidal Japanese fighter pilots. President Franklin Roosevelt placed the Congressional Medal of Honor, around his neck. Foss went on to become the AFL commissioner, Governor of South Dakota and President of the National Rifle Association

Before Foss died a several years ago he was publically humiliated by one of the incredibly ignorant douchebags employed by the TSA. The TSA screener deemed the pin on the back of Foss’s medal to be a deadly weapon and confiscated it! Foss, who was then in his 80’s, had to summon local police to intervene and retrieve his award.

Foss was bringing that hard earned medal to a speaking engagement. Joe Foss was more than a hero. He was a patriot, a leader and someone I’m very proud to have known. Speech is protected in this nation, as it should be. However, I admit I’d be the first to look away if a valor thief was getting the beating of his life.

World War Two Hero “Agent Rose” Readied for a Pauper’s Grave

Torquay, UK—Her name was Eileeen Nearn and on September 2, she died without known relatives. Social workers discovered her amazing history through documents, photos and medals they found in her flat.

Nearne or "Agent Rose" as she was known was exactly what screenwriters search for to make blockbuster films. However this humble and unassuming woman died in near obscurity, despite her incredible service to her country and demonstrated ability to repeatedly escape and survive.

They will now bury her with national honors.

My question is which, A List Hollywood, femme fatale will play Nearne in the movie?

Flight Attendants Are good For?

Chicago, IL—For 32 years Patti DeLuna, 61 has been in the skies serving passengers for three different airlines. The past 14 of those years have been with American Airlines.

Patti had a little secret; she knew how to do more than serve peanuts and drinks. She learned how to fly airplanes long ago.

Being a commercial airline pilot was impossible in DeLuna’s younger days because you could not get the job without being a military pilot first regardless of experience or training. DeLuna went ahead and got a commercial pilot's rating anyway in 1970 and several years later became a flight attendant.

Monday was hardly a different day for DeLuna as a mid-air medical emergency developed in the cockpit. The First Officer was stricken and unable to assist the Captain with the landing of that little Boeing 767 airship.

After an announcement for pilots on board the plane got no results DeLuna sprang into action and took over the First Officer’s duties like the pro she is. Although she had not piloted a plane for 20 years she did her part bring the plane in for a routine and safe landing.

I have a friend who is an American Airlines pilot and Captain. The good captain laments that the flight attendants for the most part have no interest in learning anything at all about flying the plane. You’d think they use their position and proximity to learn if for no other reason to assist in an emergency. My friend is absolutely correct.

It’s too bad that the glut of military pilots was not exhausted earlier when DeLuna was entering the work force. Had that been the case she’d have been a career pilot, been forced to retire because of age and would be enjoying a big fat pension check right now.

Somehow I don’t think retirement would ever suit DeLuna. She has proven that she has the right stuff.

I Spent An Evening With Heroes!

Simi Valley, CA—In the Bolshevik Collective of Caliornia there is a real monument to freedom and liberty. It is the Reagan Presidential Library and Museum.

Saturday night this wonderful place was filled with 43 surviving recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Along with these heroes was a large contingent of patriotic entertainers. Many I recognized instantly by face and name and many more that that I’ve seen in so many films and TV shows.

There were theatrical agents, producers and directors from the Right thinking side of entertainment. An in the mix excitingly beautiful women were everywhere.

The hosts, presenters and those honored included former First Lady, Nancy Reagan, General David Petraeus, WWII hero and actor, Charles Durning, CNN combat reporter, the lovely Alex Quade, Gary Sinise, Tom Sellak, David j. McIntyre, Jr. and Bruce Brereton.

I reflected on my two years as an Army medical corpsman in Germany holding off the Russians during the Viet Nam War. I was indeed humbled by my fellow Americans that gave so much more to preserve our freedom and way of life.

This was indeed a Celebration of Freedom at a time when our country faces the greatest crisis in my lifetime.

Meet an Angel Who Wears A Police Uniform.

New York, NY—So many fine men and women went to war protecting our freedom only to return to an ungrateful nation. Some of the old vets outlive the important people in their lives and are all alone. 68th Precinct Officer, Susan Porcello responded to a 911 call only to meet someone that would change both of their lives, an elderly marine.

Susan, you did not risk your life or take a bullet but you are every bit a hero. Your story made my day and I think many of my readers.
