Santa Monica, CA—There are loads of multi-millionaires living here that are the foot soldiers of the entertainment industry. There are also thousands that can’t seem to make it. Hearing loss derailed my own first attempt to penetrate the industry but that now may have been rectified through better audio technology. Consider me back in the mix.
Everything begins with understanding the business and pulling off the biggest con job of your life. You must learn to become someone who exists only as words on a page. You’re not mimicking other actors that have developed the character but reinventing yourself into the role. This is a learned behavior that requires training. Most of the training is really about taking the stage and making it your own.
Auditions give good and confident actors incredible control. You control that scene and you can own that part along with a fat payday.
To be ready for that audition actors take their scenes and script sides to their acting coaches. They recruit other actors to play the opposite rolls. They rehearse, block and bring their scenes to the coach’s stage. This is when the magic happens.
Right now long time working actor, Graham Beckel is enrolling students for his class. Come by and audit his class to see what this gifted teacher is all about.
I know at least two Chicago cops with Screen Actor's Guild cards cards that might consider spending their furloughs in L.A. for this training. Actors playing cops make a lot more than real ones.

There is an Extraordinary Acting Coach in Santa Monica, CA
Santa Monica, CA--Graham Beckel has been acting professionally for 40 years. He played a corrupt LAPD sergeant in Hollywood Confidential, an admiral in Pearl Harbor and hundreds of other roles. Beckel is a consummate pro, who’s always in demand for those special parts.
Savvy actors seeking to hone their skills all need a place to work their scenes and become primetime perfect. Beckel has created a great lab for actors and works with them from very young beginners to mature veterans.
Beckel’s goal is to help actors be all that they can be and he’s a really gifted teacher that will make that happen. Those fortunate enough to live near Santa Monica can visit the Santa Monica Playhouse on Tuesday nights, enroll in Beckel’s classes and experience the magic.
The details of Graham Beckel's acting class can be found at: http://www.grahambeckel.com/
Between the student’s scenes Holly Gleason performs live music and last night Graham who was also blessed with a great voice sang a duet with Holly. I shot that number called L.A. Dawn which was written by Beckel with my video camera and placed it here for your enjoyment.

A Monday evening in Santa Monica
Santa Monica, CA--Last night (Monday), I was attending a one woman play put up by acting coach and consummate actor, Graham Beckel for one of his many talented students. You will remember Beckel playing Sgt. Dick Stensland in LA Confidential or perhaps in nearly 100 other movies and TV shows.
I had parked my car and had about eight minutes to kill so I hit the street with my little Flip video camera. There are all kinds of people doing this on the Santa Monica Third Street Promenade. This was only a little of the talent that can be seen here performing for their supper.
Update: My pal Pablo Lewin is and actor, director, film maker and airline pilot is also a good investigator. He tracked down the amazing blond singer's website. Her song was, Aint Got Nothing On You and her name is Sammie Jay. Her website is here.
