Whatever Happened to the Old CTA Dicks? Did they Kill Too Many Thugs?

The official star of the CTA Police
In Chicago, the Chicago Transit Authority best known as the CTA once had its own police department.  There were about 100 male cops that were called, CTA dicks.

They were trained and armed to deal with the muggers, sex offenders and fare jumpers that always plague public transit.

There was a slight problem.  Since they wore plain clothes and were a predominantly white group they were choice targets of roving groups of black criminals.

The CTA dicks were sending more thugs to the hereafter then any police agency in the state of Illinois including Chicago cops.  Most of these shootings were somehow magically kept out of the news!

The vast majority of the thugs killed by the CTA dicks were career felons.  Others were youngsters just beginning their lives of crime.

The bogus screams of racism and murder by cops became a PR nightmare.  So in the early 1970s they put all the CTA dicks in green uniforms and put them in patrol cars guarding CTA bus barns where nothing bad ever happens.  Soon they disbanded this entire department.

The Chicago Police Department then created their Mass Transit uniformed Unit.  For a while they included some undercover officers but they too were targeted by unsuspecting black thugs.  After a few more Justifiable shootings they pulled nearly all plain-clothed officers from this duty.

So today you have the grandsons of the old thugs that wear hoodies to defeat the new technology surveillance cameras.  They are pretty much guaranteed of no undercover police interference with their crimes.

The politicians made the CTA property a, GUN FREE ZONE to deter potential robbery or rape victims from shooting the the well protected thugs roaming the Windy City!

It’s a great country, isn’t it!

Second City Cop, a Great Blog Should Grow Into Video Literacy

Chicago, IL--Chicago cops are represented by the FOP as their collective bargaining agent.  They have lost more ground in recent years for their membership.  The city’s politicians have stolen, squandered and otherwise mismanaged Chicago’s revenue for decades creating a public safety funding nightmare.

Chicago is the current murder capital of the United states and in the last nine months despite gun bans and draconian restrictions over 3,000 people have been shot here.

Nearly a decade ago with bloggers popping up Second City Cop was Born.  The site is hosted allegedly by a cop who has since retired. He or she has remained anonymous avoiding the wrath of angry police bosses and politicians.
Second city has done well in calling out misguided management, biased police related media stories and corruption.  In many cases SCC has criticized the FOP for lack of leadership or courage in their representation of cops.  In Short SCC has held the city, lapdog media and FOP accountable for their non-stop mis-steps.

SCC has also condemned the tireless and constant anti-police race baiting from the likes of Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina’s Church. Perhaps someday SCC can take a look into the funding of Pfleger’s activities and his personal enrichment through use or abuse of his donor’s funds. I suspect he can be easily exposed as a professional instigator.

The SCC site receives tens of thousands of hits every day.  The readers are politicians, reporters, bureaucrats and of course Chicago’s cops.  The real story is found in the massive amount of reasonably screened comments they receive.   Beat cops are free to call attention to to police related issues they find troubling.

SCC is not monetized through advertising I suspect to protect the host’s privacy.  That’s a shame because SCC would be raking in some real cash as a result.  I’d love to see SCC become video literate and perhaps employ a video journalist/retired cop to put embedded videos on the site.  A picture is worth a thousand words and video does so much more!

Such a SCC reporter could bring balance to the propaganda some call journalism published and broadcast by local media/bedmates of Chicago’s despicable politicians.

That video journalist could expose through public court records the criminal past’s and motives behind the career criminals that falsely accuse cops of brutality and other misconduct. That reporter could ask for tips and information from the public that would aid wrongfully accused cops in protecting their careers and pensions.

Such a video journalist needs real TV news experience along with police training.  That VJ could attend City Council and Police Board meeting giving an inside video view of the shenanigans. I suspect that SCC has laid a great foundation to become a well-financed and best source for news about Chicago’s public safety issues.

Ron Dean, the Cop Killer That Became a Successful Actor

Chicago, IL—It was a typically hot summer Chicago day in July of 1955 when a troubled 16 year-old Ron Dean was detained in the Shakespeare District lock-up.   He wanted out and found a can opener in his cell.  With a little luck he was somehow able to open the cell door.
Dean wandered out to the booking area and found the unoccupied desk of the lock-up keeper, Chicago police officer Albert Brown, 57.  In the desk he found Brown’s loaded service revolver.  Officer Brown surprised Dean who then shot and critically wounded the cop.
Dean was able to flee the station and Brown was removed to the Alexian Brothers Hospital where he died some ten days later.
Two days later Dean was spotted at the North Avenue Beach where he was arrested. Brown was a juvenile and paid the low price juveniles paid for murders.  Dean was given his freedom perhaps much earlier than any cop killer would deserve.
I hate cop killers and have attended and been part of the honor guard for too many fallen officer’s funerals.  I’m still horribly haunted by the unbelievably hysterical screams of two-time police widow Johanna Crowley when she buried her second cop husband Pat Crowley in 1976.  She married and buried both cops in that same Catholic Church. Her first husband was the fallen police hero, Mike Kelly.
Ron Dean somehow was able to turn his life around and was never again involved in that kind of sordid behavior.
Dean found he loved acting and was lucky enough to land an agent and an acting career that began in the mid-1970’s through today.
The irony here was that Dean actually landed roles as Chicago cops!  Including one in the wildly successful Andrew Davis film, The Fugitive starring Harrison Ford.  Dean was believable in that film and worked alongside of real cops hired as extras all unaware of his shocking past.
Dean’s dark and distant past soon surfaced understandably angering many Chicago cops.  Some took it in stride and others expressed hatred for the cop killing thespian.
I have to ask; if Dean paid his debt and left his criminal past doesn’t he deserve to enjoy life with the law-abiding?  After all it’s a rare event when a criminal emerges from the dark side to become a productive citizen.
I really wonder what the surviving members of Brown’s family would have to say about this?  I also would love to land an interview with Dean.
Can a juvenile delinquent and cop killer get forgiveness some 65 years after such a horrific crime?
Dean is 80 years old today and has enjoyed the fruits of a thriving acting career.  I know cops universally loathe any cop killer.
Can and should Dean be recognized for turning his life around for becoming a productive and taxpaying citizen?  If not, who can?
Could Dean have done anything that would have somehow undone the damage aside from changing his ways?
Dean easily could have stayed in the abyss of career criminals.  Somehow I can forgive Dean and applaud both his acting performances and important personal achievements.

One Bad Act of “Journalism” Deserves Another!

NYT Reporter Julie Bosman lives at 5620 N. Wayne Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60660!
Ferguson, MO—With outright lies and massive race baiting from the Whitehouse down to the sewers of Ferguson this was an obvious effort to ignite a Race War.  The media could not stop exploiting the shooting death of robbery suspect and thug, Michael Brown.
Leave it to yet another dying publication; The New York Times to publish Officer Darren Wilson’s private residence information.  The enterprising reporter behind this was a Chicago based reporter, Julie Bosman
Bosman’s intent was obvious; she wanted serious harm to come to Wilson and his new wife.  Her editor facilitated this stupidity.   There was never public benefit to the story.  Perhaps the goal was to later report on the arson and murders of the young Wilson couple.
Needless to say the Wilson’s had to abandon their home for their very lives.
In a turn of events Bosman’s own home address was published by Internet web-masters sympathetic with the Wilson’s.
The result of the new tit for tat response was some very understandable panic.  Ms. Bosman has made numerous calls to the Chicago Police Department demanding protection.
Ms. Bosman is very lucky that cops are not dangerous to people like her.  I can’t however say the same for some of the folks that support Officer Wilson that never took an oath to uphold the law.  Yes, this miserable Bosman bitch, better keep looking over her shoulder!
One thing more!  Her residence:

My Suggestion for the New Leadership of FOP Lodge 7

Chicago, IL—FOP Lodge 7 has failed miserably in the past to properly represent the men and women of the Chicago police Department.  The leadership of the FOP has been bedding down with city politicians and a couple of really lame appointed police superintendents. We can only guess what the tradeoffs have been.
The department is rapidly shrinking and the position of police officer grows more dangerous by the hour.  Pension funds have been mismanaged, stolen or otherwise compromised.  Officer’s retirement funding is in grave danger as bankruptcy looms.
The only real source for news about the matters that affect police officers come from bloggers.  The Second City Cop Blog is the primary source of news cops need to know.  The downside is that the some of the blog content creator/s are anonymous.  Publishing the truth about mismanagement, waste and corruption is hazardous to any working officer.
The FOP should take on a role of reporting news to its membership along with the local taxpayers in a very public way.  The FOP should bring transparency to issues such as hiring, promotions and discipline matters that are based almost solely on political clout.
That means hiring a full time investigative multi-media journalist along with a producer/video photographer.  FOP needs to cover all events that involve officer’s lives, safety and careers. There should be no less than five news multimedia stories produced per week.
The FOP reporter needs to call out malicious or deceptive mainstream media reports about police officers.   The reporter can lawfully expose the criminal history of accusers using available public court records.  The reporter can also find and interview anyone with information that will expose the truth.
I’d create a special FOP News website and call it, “Nightly Windy City Police Reports.  It would contain text, pictures and hard-hitting video reports.
The bloggers need to continue and call out the FOP if they fail to do their jobs.  The FOP can have all the power of a major newspaper or TV news organization.  The two media positions are not one for amateurs or beginners.
I’d hire former WMAQ reporter Amy Jacobson who’s always been very fair and well liked by cops.  I’d let her pick the producer/photographer.   I’d take the producer spot myself if it was offered.  In any event there are plenty of great investigative reporters that can fill this position.
The FOP needs a bare knuckles reporter that understands public records laws and information sources.  That reporter should be trustworthy in order to protect department and any city employee whistle blowers.
The names of the whistle blowers should be given to FOP administration only on a need to know basis.  Actually they don’t have a need to know.
It’s time to bring serious sunshine on the Chicago Police Board. They have inequitably and shamelessly saved or destroyed careers based on clout rather than evidence.  The FOP needs to examine its contract power to force reforms on the Police Board.
The men and women of the Chicago Police Department deserve something other than lip service from the union that claims to represent them.
