Celebrating the 4th Of July? Really in 2013?

Patrick Henry
Chicago, IL—I will enjoy the day off, the barbecues and pool parties with friends.  However what we’ve done to the incredible Liberty and Freedom our forefathers shed their blood to give us is an unmitigated disgrace.
Starting with excessive, punishing and extortionate taxation that would even stop King George’s heart we’ve become slaves to our politicians.
Private enterprise has been destroyed by the taxation as our hopelessly corrupt politicians have surrounded themselves with decadence and the wealth of royalty.  That’s happening while most Americans must live hand to mouth.
Our rights against unreasonable search and seizure have been outrageously and redundantly violated by government checkpoints where we are frisked, fondled and abused by low-life, uniformed government employees.  Our e-mail has been read and is stored in data warehouses with all of our telephone calls waiting for an opportunity to be used against us.
Our gun rights have been rationed, closely monitored and simply denied by various government jurisdictions for decades.
We are videotaped and our vehicle movement is logged by roving license plate readers.  We are also tracked by the usage of debit and credit cards.
Cowardly venue operators have mimicked the government by frisking Americans attending concerts, sporting events and some amusement parks.
We have allowed the government the absolute power to secretly arrest and hold us without lawyers or trials without justification.
Americans have taken this abuse in stride like sheep being paraded to the slaughterhouse by a Judas goat.
Our Constitution and the Bill of Rights never contained a provision that allowed for trading freedom for security.  We’ve allowed this encroachment well outside the required political mechanism required to change the Constitution.
Forgive me if I don’t celebrate the 4th of July until we begin placing our politicians both Democrat and Republican on the gallows where they belong for Treason.

Well said. The America we celebrated as kids is dead and gone. I miss her.

We the People thought that we could discard Christian foundations as an exercise of our freedom. Now we see that without those foundations there is no freedom. The U.S.A. is dead but Christ waits for us to return.

Well timed, well written and very well the most accurate reflection of our times. Sad to say I agree and now we suffer because of so many people that just don't care enough about our liberty to get off their duff and do something worthwhile and change the direction we are headed in. God Bless America.. but salvation is near for many of us.

Director and Writer Oliver Stone's take on 4th July 2013 in Czechoslovakia

Edward Snowden is "a hero" and the rest of the world should stand up to the United States and offer asylum to the NSA whistleblower.

"It's a disgrace that Obama is more concerned with hunting down Snowden than reforming these George Bush-style eavesdropping techniques,"

"To me [Oliver Stone, a Vietnam Veteran], Snowden is a hero, because he revealed secrets that we should all know, that the United States has repeatedly violated the Fourth Amendment." Stone said. "He should be welcomed, and offered asylum, but he has no place to hide because every country is intimidated by the United States.

"This should not be. This is what's wrong with the world today, and it's very important that the world recognizes and gives asylum to Snowden. Everyone in the world is impacted by the United States' Big Brother attitude toward the world."

"We need countries to say no to the United States," Oliver Stone said.

"The United States is the dominant power in the universe, with its eavesdropping abilities, cyber abilities … It's what they call in the Pentagon 'full spectrum dominance.'

"And the world is in danger with our tyranny."

"America is possessed with a religious conviction," he said. " ... We think we're special, but we're not.

"There seem to be madmen running the country. Mad men. They wear suits, they wear ties, they talk nice like Obama or tough like Bush, but what's the difference? They're mad men."

On US Independence day in 2013 -do we have to look outside of USA for Independence from the US Government spying on us, intruding into our lives in secret, and basically treating us like crap.

“Who betrayed whom?

Who betrayed Snowden? He disclosed illegal acts which violated the American people’s privacy as well as other countries’ sovereignty.

Or was it the U.S. intelligence betraying the trust of their own people and their allies?

Who is the traitor and who is the betrayed?

Who has the truth, the justice, the human right?

I, or the elite/big brother who are trying to control the world?”

Should Independence Day in America still be celebrated?
Independence from Whom?

"Amid all the heated cross-currents of debate about the National Security Agency’s massive surveillance program, there is a growing distrust of the Obama administration that makes weighing the costs and benefits of the NSA program itself hard to assess.

...

The belated recognition of this administration’s contempt for the truth, for the American people and for the Constitution of the United States, has been long overdue. When Barack Obama squanders his own credibility with his glib lies, he is not just injuring himself during his time in office. He is inflicting a lasting wound on the country as a whole.

But we the voters are not blameless. Having chosen an untested man to be president, on the basis of rhetoric, style and symbolism, we have ourselves to blame if we now have only a choice between two potentially tragic fates — the loss of American lives to terrorism or a further dismantling of our freedoms that has already led many people to ask: “Is this still America?”

Do we have to leave it up to Foreign Nations to stand up for international law which include unlawful searches and seizures in Vienna of a Foreign aeroplane.

Let us face it - the 4th Amendment in USA is only a myth and is long long gone.

The American people are asleep as Obama, US Supreme Court and Congress takes away any rights.

Totalitarianism is upon us – nothing but a drag and a drone.

Independence Day hypocrisy suppresses what demands highlighting.

4th July 2013- Its not about celebrating independence day instead it is about taking back America - not just one with courage - but many with courage and action- before it is too late!

Promises made are broken. Women for Peace co-founder Medea Benjamin challenged the President recently.

She interrupted his speech. She did so several times. She called on him to close Guantanamo, release cleared detainees, and stop killer drone attacks.

“Will you apologize for the thousands of Muslims that you killed,” she asked? “Will you compensate the families of innocent victims?”
“Can you tell the Muslims that their lives are as precious as our lives?”
“Can you take the drones out of the hands of the CIA?”
“Can you stop (drone) strikes that are killing people on the basis of suspicious activity?”
“You are commander in chief! You can close Guantanamo today! You can release” all cleared detainees.
“It’s been 11 years. Abide by the rule of law. You’re a constitutional lawyer.”
Speaking truth to power has a price. Benjamin was forcibly removed. She was detained. She was interrogated by Secret Service, military and FBI personnel. She was then released.
