Before the judge took the
bench I was greeted by a warm hug from Milke on this extraordinary day. There were smiles and some tears during this
somewhat emotional event.
I asked Milke to show me her
ankle monitor she was required to wear since September of 2013. She called it a sign of her Freedom, rather
than an inconvenience. She lifted the
leg of her slacks to show it to me and I took the last picture of that device
before a probation officer in a private area of the court removed it.
Germany sent reporters from
ARD, RTL and Der Spiegel Magazine. There
were cameras galore when Milke and her lawyers left the court.
Milke will be at a press
conference tomorrow morning and I will be in attendance.
Lawyers for Milke will have a
lot to say and map out the massive civil lawsuit that was filed last Friday
afternoon.
Hooray for Debra and cheers for you, Paul. You never once gave up on this woman. You're the only one who was there the longest and the strongest.
ReplyDeleteA great day for you both. A sad commentary on Arizona's lauegal system. congratulations to both. Aubrey.
ReplyDeleteIt's really too bad that the Department of Justice, the US Attorney General's Office, etc are so thoroughly corrupt; I would REALLY like to see Montgomery, et al investigated for criminal violation of Ms Milke's Civil Rights; those should be slam dunk convictions. That would be well-deserved and satisfying for her, and a warning to future prosecutors and police officials who might be tempted to test the limits of their authority and immunity.
ReplyDeleteStill, you have to play the course, as it lays. So, if these rotten apples can be convicted, even if only perhaps, it's worth the effort.
I've always hoped that Debra would file a blockbuster Civil case against these thugs, and I'm glad to see that she has. Unfortunately, it will be the taxpayers on the hook, for the award; it should, rightly, be the malfesant officials, but again you have to take what you can get. And, speaking as a taxpayer, I would be proud to pony up my share of this very satisfying justice. I hope they take these miscreants for a huge settlement. Even though, whatever the number, it cannot truly compensate her, for what she's been put through.
Hi Paul
ReplyDeleteCongratulations of course first to Debra Milke for her physical release, from this nightmare.
It will take time for the dust to settle, even though she has physical freedom.
Also Paul congratulations to you too!
And thank you for all the hard work you put in for Debra Milke and against police corruption. You are to be praised for your solid loyalty to her, for all those years!
God Bless Both of You! I am very happy for this outcome!
