Coming to Your Neighborhood Soon—Not Your Father’s Pharmacy

Westwood Village, Los Angeles, CA—Right across the street from UCLA is a new business. They are selling quasi-legal cannabis sativa, the polite term for marijuana.

I say quasi-legal because there is a conflict with federal law about the medicinal application for this journey to the Twilight Zone. These places get busted all the time. However now they’re banking on our admitted cocaine abusing President, Barack Obama to end the drug prohibition.

I hate drug abusers and non-medical use of any intoxicant. However I want our government completely out of the drug business unless it’s regulating what is prescribed by physicians for legitimate treatment. Ending the Drug War will save lives and hundreds of billions of dollars every year. It will also put the Drug Lords in a business with a meager profit like the people get that sell coffee and sugar.

The only exception to regulation is zoning. This kind of signage should be zoned away to Afghanistan or at least to an industrial area. It’s sickening to see this joint across from UCLA and so close to too many students.

The point is moot we better get used to these kinds of places because it’s part of the impending decay of our society.

  1. I feel that legalization of marijuana would create an epidemic with unfathomable consequences. Since marijuana will grow ANYPLACE, it is easy to cultivate and avoid any tax that can be imposed, which I believe has always been part of the governments issue with MJ.

There are a few people in my social orbit who are MJ users, they are unreliable, forgetful, and reckless. Did MJ make them this way? Who knows for sure, I do keep them at arms length however, and I dont relying on their judgment in any way.

On the other hand, my sister has MS which has steadily progressed since she was diagnosed several years ago. Her treatment makes her severely ill and she spends most weekends being either sick or laying in bed staring at the ceiling. The THC in marijuana could alleviate the misery many MS suffers feel.

  2. Taxing narcotics is another bad idea. We need less government not more. As for purity of intoxicants sold, let the buyer beware.

  3. I got into an argument with a friend when I said that all drugs should be legalized, including meth. His reply was something along the lines of "That's crazy, what about all the labs that are blown up by the people who make it, and the threat it poses to neighbors?"

To which I replied... "We have zoning and other land-use regulations to deal with that. You can't build an oil refinery next to a hospital, can you? Same principle."

  4. If legalization is the answer, then why is there cocaine still being smuggled into the UK? If you've got a habit you can get into a treatment center and still get your drugs legally in Britain, but illegal drugs and the violence that accompanies illicit drugs remain a problem in England. If you doubt this use the internet to examine recent events over the past few years in the Midlands.

Legalization of illicit drugs is NOT the answer. It hasn't worked in the UK or Amsterdam and it won't work here.

  5. The UK and other European countries regulate drugs but allow physicians to prescribe them. I want total legalization.

There is no known cure for these addictions but there is a cure for allowing Drug Lords and Drug Czars getting rich through this misery plaguing society.

There is no good reason for one more death related to violence committed by a criminal in the furtherance of huge drug profits because of the prohibition.
