What’s in the future for Paul Huebl And His Blog?

Please, tell me just what you’d like to see more of at Crime, Guns and Videotape.

This blog began during a dark period for me. I was suffering from a temporary, seven month loss of nearly all my hearing. Doing my normal routine was impossible. The blog became the only outlet I had but frankly it has been fun. Thankfully my hearing returned and my blog stayed.

I was a late comer to this somewhat new way of sharing news and opinion. It’s nothing less than a technology miracle that with modest costs I can mix words with pictures, audio and video.

I believe content is King and I want so much to find time to bring my visitors much more. I want to be able to give you more of what you want from me. I have to guess just what that may be. I also am without funding from this site to gather more content. Creativity for me is a must or I’d have few readers at all. I’ve seen many a decent blog with tiny readership and meaningless crap blogs with amazing readership.

Blog promotion seems to be an art I’ve not yet mastered. I’d love nothing more than to just be generating exactly what my visitors want and make a living at the same time. Only a small percentage of bloggers have made the big time.

TV news and newspapers are dying a slow death of a thousand cuts. The viewers and readers are vanishing. Gone from the usual media customers are the audience of the 18 through 35 demographics. Their former viewers and readers are here in cyberspace.

If I had my way, I’d be reporting to you wherever news happens. I’d go to Iraq, Afghanistan or anyplace where news is unfolding and history is being made. I want to show you those things that seem to get too much filtering by mainstream or old media.

I want to bring you more original video so my visitors can see just what I see. I want to be able to bring you more behind the scenes information from major crimes, government’s missteps and those ordinary people in extraordinary events.

I want to expose more heroes and villains but am limited too often by geography and funding.

As for the question I posed in the headline of this story, I don’t have a clue what the future holds. I’m flying by the seat of my pants.

  1. Paul I have been reading your blog for over two years and enjoy your humor as well as the information I get here.

I was hoping you’d somehow go to Washington D.C. and Chicago to cover that Heller case and the goofy politicians trying to violate our civil rights. I know you’d have put those Mayors and police officials on the spot with tough questions rather than let them whine about the outcome of Heller.

Please Paul, keep up the good work

  3. Paul I enjoy ur blog and because of you I now have one. I don't market my blog but I market my biz. Which my blog is linked to.

I spend easily 20,000 a year in advertising. To make money u gotta spend money. But I would never spend money on my blog. However the insane amount of time I (we) spend on our blogs is unreplacable. When I have time I blog, thanks to my Blackberry, I am able to write this while doing cardio at the gym.

  4. BFollow your passions. Write about what interests you, not us. Your blog attracts those with interests similar to yours and, by writing about what provokes your passions, you write with enthusiasm. It is very readable.
Don't ask what interests us. Ask what makes you laugh, raises your blood pressure, anything that evokes any of the emotions.
Your blog can be reportage, educational, restaurant reviews, anything. But above all else, it has to be "Paul Heubl".
You know what makes a good singer? It's not his/her voice. Instead, it is their ability to stand on stage in front of a large crowd and be "naked", showing all of his/her feelings about what the lyrics say. Great singers do that. Good singers just say the words on pitch.
Naked, Paul. (That's figurative, of course.)

  5. Paul, love your blog.We see eye to eye on many issues.I am the biggest supporter of the Second Amendment,in the truest sense.I believe in self preservation.

Chicago politics are always a good topic.Too bad its a city under siege from all sides.

Legal topics like Phil Spectors case where he isnt getting a fair trial.Doesnt matter if he is guilty/innocent,I hate injustice because it applies to all of us.

    Keep it up.

  7. Dear Mr. Huebl

I have instructed my Campaign to not only retire Hillary's debt but to help you and your blog in anyway we can.

The ONLY thing I ask of you is to not reveal the fact that I read your blog to the press and most importantly my wife Michelle.

    Sincerely your Pal from Illinois.

  8. Your insights into the workings of Chicago lately has been valuable to me.
Personally I blog for myself and my own passions, and sometimes just crap-minutiae - but mainly for the community of support I get that doesn't exist much locally. If you get a change to go to a blogger-meeting or rendezvous do it!

  10. Paul Ed Skinner said it best.

In my previous comment to his; I forgot to mention that you shouldn't ask the readers for their views (aka POLLS.) Your are the man (on your blog.)

  11. I hope that the newspapers don't die. It is the newspapers which (sometimes) do the real work of exposing the chaotic mess that is the US criminal legal 'system'. An example is Tainted Trials and there have been others. The TV media do a crappy of of this - they just aren't any good at it.
Look at the Iraq war - thousands of hours on US TV and still no one really knows what is going on. The Canadian TV did a really good show, about 2 hrs long, covering how the US got into this and comparing what the administration said would happen and what actually did happen. US TV news is like empty calories - it fills up your time, not your mind.

Please tell us you do not put that stuff on your Chicago style hotdogs??

  18. I have always considered ketchup on hotdogs as a serious felony.

They do that out in California all the time. I guess those Bolshevik bastards love the color red!

  19. Paul, please don't fold, I always read you after SCC (thanx to the link in the sidebar). Most of the time you bring sanity to many issues that are important to me.

  20. Many seem to think this post was going to be some kind of a Swan Song for my blog because I’m trying to guess the future. I only was soliciting ideas to make it better for my visitors!
You can get rid of this old blogger that easily!

Feel free to send that paper in your wallet with dead Presidents pictures on it my way. If you have a business and want an ad here we can do that too.

  21. Paul: You do a great job. I was attracted to this blog by the no apology defense of free gun ownership. I would love to see you cover police stories; the good as well as the bad; good cops doing a heroic job as well as the cruds who lock up citizens for little or no reason. My best wishes to all the good, hardworking, under-appreciated officers. WCH Richmond, VA

  23. Paul, you could be more candid about your profile. Your not 40,but at least 60.(why the bullshit)
Also, the Jail story,If I'm right about your true age, you would have been 19 or 20 about then and I have never known a Chi Po to be called to help solve nay problems there.
I instructed at the Academy and remember a recruit who stopped a bus for running a red light in the loop, and he also lived in the Towers.Maybe you knew him!
    Interesting about memory, isn't it?

  24. Actually I had some time with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police before the CPD. That where I was called to handle a couple of jail incidents. I was drafted into the Army and returned after my two-year hitch was over.

I went back to the Sheriff’s Police until I was hired by the CPD.

Do you remember in the 1970s when all the jail guards went out on strike? It was Chicago cops not Sheriff's police who took over for more than a month! They had guys from every district and the Task Force.

As for my age, I can’t be a day over 40! Okay, maybe I’m 45. Let’s see, how old was I when Conlisk became superintendent? Do you suggest I was wearing diapers then? Say it ain’t so!

In the Chicago police academy I had the very best instructors in the world. What did you teach in the academy, (I assume O’brien Street) send me an e-mail! The best looking instructor by far was policewoman Geri Perry!

I’m positive I’d remember you. I think we all remember our academy instructors even if I was only seven or eight years old back then!

That means you can't be a day over 45 either! Do you remember Jack Benny? They say he was only 39 when he died!
There were at least a dozen coppers living in the towers back then.
